WireService.ca Media Release (05/08/2019) - Vera Causa Opera (VCO) is proud to announce details of the second annual Canadian Opera Festival coming to Cambridge, Guelph and Waterloo Ontario next month. A contest was held for local high school and middle students in the region to create the plot of an opera. Once selected, the students collaborated with VCO to turn these initial ideas into full stories with music: short operas. Five winners were chosen. They are:
The Shoemaker's Orphans - Words by Kyri and Rivi Friedman, Music by Emma Verdonk
La jugement - Words by Ms. Lemieux and Music by Dylan Langan
Refracted - Words by Ms. Lilley and Music by Emma Verdonk
Étrange et belle - Words by Ms. McCorkindale & Vanessa Kerr and Music by Dylan Langan
The Village Girl - Plot by Ms. Bissada, Words and Music by Dylan Langan
June 16th - WATERLOO - Knox Presbyterian Church, 50 Erb Street West - 7 pm
The operas will feature performances by: Autumn Wascher - Soprano, Michaela Chiste - Soprano, Jorge Trabanco - Baritone.
General Director Dylan Langan says: “It is great to see everyone coming together to make brand new opera, regardless of their previous experience. These are truly original and Canadian stories that need to be told.”
